Altars of Imagination 2021-2024

«In 2021, I relocated to the Netherlands, carrying only a suitcase and backpack due to limited space. This meant leaving behind many of my memories.

Growing up with a large family photographic archive, I found myself in a foreign country with no memories. So I decided to go in search of new images and create my own Dutch family archive.

During my three years in the Netherlands, I collected archival material from different sources and created new memories. Having no historical reference, I went to recontextualize the collected photographs, placing them in contexts related to the imagination.

In these fantastic places, where everything is possible, I gave shape to my Dutch family memories. Altars of Imagination was born from the urge to construct memories in an unfamiliar country with the intention of feeling at home again.

I collected and reutilized archival photographs of Dutch provenance; I created small sets using cardboard, plasticine and drew and cut out/molded some props. I created imaginary contexts where the archival photographs could become familiar to me».
