The Inevitable Anguish of Desire
An honest and introspective reflection on the transformation of emotions. Through her artistic practice, Maria-Denise learns to navigate her inner world, confronting unfulfilled desires, darkness, and emptiness. With her imagery and textures, she gains clarity and acceptance, capturing and alchemising complex feelings.
For her, photographs have the power to give voice to the subconscious. Thus, this project exists in an intimate dialogue with the artist’s mental health and healing journey, evolving into a visual diary created with different tools, including digital and analog cameras, phones, hand-drawing on printed photos, and digital manipulation.
Some of Maria-Denise’s works emerge spontaneously, while others are shaped by visions from her dreams. Ultimately, the project embodies a profound sense of self-belonging rooted in self-awareness, as the artist realizes that pain turns into light.
